Production mode

Production mode moves real money. Your production account is separate from your test account, so you'll need new API keys, account IDs, and webhooks when you switch.

Every Moov customer gets one test account and one production account. In the Dashboard, switch between them with the account switcher in the top left corner. Your production account can't move money until Moov approves it, so contact Moov to start verification and underwriting while you build in test mode.

What changes in production mode

Item Test mode Production mode What to do
API keys Test mode keys Separate production keys; test keys don't work Create production API keys and store them separately
Base URL https://api.moov.io https://api.moov.io (unchanged) Nothing; the key you authenticate with determines the mode
Your partner account ID Test account ID Different production account ID Replace any hard-coded accountID values
Accounts, sources, transfers Sample data, created in test mode Empty until you create them Re-create accounts and link sources; IDs from test mode don't exist in production
Webhooks Test webhooks and signing secrets None until you create them Set up webhooks with production URLs and store the new signing secrets
Capabilities Enabled automatically Requested per account and enabled after verification Request only the capabilities each account needs
Team members Access the test account only Invited separately Invite team members in production mode
Money movement Simulated, with faster ACH timing Real money, real rail timing Wait for transfer status webhooks instead of assuming completion

Get your production account approved

Your production account is fully activated after these three steps are complete.

Verification

Moov verifies your business (KYB) and its business representatives. See verification for what's required. Common issues and how to resolve them:

Issue Resolution
Address can't be matched to the individual Correct the representative's or individual's details, or upload proof of address, such as a driver's license, utility bill, or bank statement
No secretary of state filings, or inactive status Upload proof of incorporation
Business TIN doesn't match the name Upload a document showing the business's legal name, not its doing business as (DBA) name

Underwriting

If you'll use the collect-funds capability, Moov also underwrites your business. Moov may ask for:

  • A recent processing statement, to check that your expected volume matches what you reported and to review your chargeback-to-sales and refund-to-sales ratios
  • A bank statement from the last 3 months, to confirm the business name and linked bank account match, and that your average daily balance can cover expected chargeback and refund liability

Businesses with no processing history start with a low transaction velocity limit based on a 90-day rolling average.

Fee plan

Moov activates your production account after your fee plan is set. See billing & fees.
